Anise (Pimpinella anisum) is a traditional and versatile herb whose seeds are used in baking, bread, tea and spice blends. Its mild liquorice-like flavour makes it a valued ingredient in many cuisines.

Anise grows best in a sunny location and nutrient-rich soil. Sow directly outdoors from April to the end of May in rows or in a growing bed. It is also suitable for home gardens and edible plant areas.
